We finally swapped our pipes for paddles to raise money for Barnardo’s at the Dragon Boat Race hosted at Draycote Water on Saturday and it was a huge success. 6 teams competed in 3 heats with a final race between the 4 fastest boats in a very tense final where only one team were victorious.

Even though the weather was cold and wet everyone got in the spirit and there were plenty of spectators cheering on their favourite teams with a cake sale and raffle to help reach that ultimate fundraising target.

Everyone had a great day with many saying that they would do it again but there can only be one winner! That honour went to the Saint-Gobain Public Sector team under the name of Perfect Storm who walked away with the trophy and bragging rights… until the next Dragon Boat Race!

The money is still being collected and counted with the current total standing at £7,451.48 but you can still donate via our fundraising page to help us hit that final goal!

All proceeds raised will contribute towards developing Barnardo’s Gap Homes and Future Place initiatives, which aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people.

Gap Homes are transitional homes for those leaving care, bridging the gap between supported living and complete independence for young people when they’re at their most vulnerable age. Future Place is a skills training academy providing those aged 16-25 who have left the care system with high quality training, pastoral support and employment opportunities to help them reach their full potential and create a positive future.
