This article covers the two chemicals currently in our Trade Saver until the end of 2019 and that is the X800 and X100. The Sentinel X800 is a fast acting cleaner and the X100 is a heavy duty inhibitor to give ongoing protection.

Why use chemicals in a heating system?

Before we look at the specific products in detail we must first ask ourselves this question: Why do we use chemicals?

Well, limescale and corrosion are the two biggest causes for inefficiency in central heating systems. It leads to radiator cold spots, boiler inefficiency, a noisy system and a multitude of other problems. If you attend such an issue you will first want to fix it and this is where the cleaner comes in (X800). Then, you will want to try and prevent it happening again with an inhibitor (X100).

It’s a great opportunity for an add on sale when attending a customer’s property where they are having any of the common issues associated with limescale and corrosion.

X800: Fast acting cleaner

X800

The key features:

  • The chemical technology within the X800 reduces circulation time to just 1 hour so you can fully restore an older systems efficiency
  • It works by targeting dissolution of corrosion debris
  • Compatible for use in cold systems
  • The ideal product for power-flushing a system

Usage:

1 Litre of Sentinel X800 Fast Acting Cleaner is sufficient to clean a system with up to 10 radiators. That’s equivalent to a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house approximately. For larger systems, 2 litres should be used.

Where systems are badly fouled, a higher concentration is recommended, for example 2 litres for a 10 radiator home.

Be aware though, this product will not clear a completely blocked pipe.

Adhering to BS 7593:

To clean an older system in accordance with the British Standards it is recommended that the X800 is used with power flushing equipment. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the power flushing equipment. Alternatively, circulate the product (preferably at normal operating temperature, with all valves open and the pump turned to maximum flow) for a minimum period of 1 hour or until satisfactory performance is restored.

For open systems dose via the F&E cistern, via a by-pass feeder or use a Sentinel Dosing Vessel.

With sealed systems that are empty add to any convenient point before filling and if full use a Sentinel Dosing Vessel to inject via the filling loop or other access point.

X100: Heavy duty inhibitor

X100

The key features:

  • Protects the system against limescale and corrosion using TripleTech™ Anti-corrosion technology to extend the life of the system
  • Suitable for all system metals and in all types of indirect central heating systems
  • pH neutral formulation keeps it safe to leave in the system
  • Ensures optimum system efficiency and minimises fuel usage ultimately saving your customer money
  • Suitable for hard, soft and artificially softened water
  • Helps prevent the formation of hydrogen gas which can damage the system
  • Test kit is available to check the level of inhibitor in the system so you can be sure of the right dose

Usage:

1 Litre of Sentinel X100 inhibitor is sufficient to treat a typical domestic system of up to 10 radiators. For larger systems it is recommended to use twice the amount.

For open systems the dose can be administered via the F&E cistern, via a by-pass feeder or with a Sentinel Dosing Vessel.

With sealed systems that are empty then it can be added to any convenient point before filling the system and for full systems use a Sentinel Dosing Vessel to inject via the filling loop or other access point.

The system needs to be cleaned before use of an inhibitor which is exactly why we think it’s perfectly partnered with the X800 Fast Acting Cleaner.
