You may remember we ran a competition earlier this year giving one college the chance to win £10,000 to upgrade their plumbing training facilities. Well, the winner has now been crowned – huge congratulations to City College Norwich!

The chosen one

Hundreds of colleges across the country submitted applications. Our judges whittled them down to just three semi-finalists, who were chosen to attend the final awards ceremony at Worcester Bosch’s headquarters in Warndon.

City College Norwich came out victorious, with New College Hackney Campus and Hull College as runners up.

“We can’t believe it – we’re thrilled!” said Katy Dorman, Apprenticeship Delivery Manager at City College Norwich. “We really want to thank everybody for such a fantastic day.

“The £10,000 reward will present significant funding for our department, and means we can move forward with our gas engineer focus programme in October. Our students will be thrilled with the new workshop, tools and training we can now offer.”

Fun and support

As well as being there to hear the great news, all attendees took a tour of the Worcester Bosch factory and a boiler CPD session, with everyone going head-to-head to see who could strip a boiler in the quickest time!

Not to mention no one went home empty handed, with both runners up bagging goodies from Worcester Bosch, Big Wipes, Rothenberger, Evo-Stik, Cistermiser, Wavin, Nest and, of course, Graham.

Ian Kenny, our Marketing Director, said: “We are keen to cultivate a level of intimacy and interest in our customers and local community. We have 129 branches across the country and we believe all of them should be partnering with local colleges. Students have shown a hunger for training and development, and in times where funding is getting thinner it is up to industry leaders, such as ourselves, to support students and apprentices in college in whatever way we can.

“This was the first Graham College Refresh Awards, and we hope it will be the first of many as we continue to support the local community and future professionals.”

Student -focused

It’s only July, but the College Refresh Scheme is already one of our highlights for the year! Students and apprentices are the future of our industry, so we want to be there to support them.

Our Turning Pro scheme is another great way to do that. It offers students and apprentices discounts, advice from experts and the latest industry news!
